About The Mile

The Milwaukee Mile continues to be one of America’s premier, tradition-laden auto racing venues. Motorized racing events date back to 1903, a full eight years before the first Indianapolis 500, making The Mile the oldest, continually operating motor speedway in the world.

A virtual who’s-who of motorsports’ finest competitors have raced here. From turn-of-the-century "speed contests" and 24-hour endurance races to AAA and USAC-sanctioned Indy car and Stock Car events through the 1970’s, to Champ Car and NASCAR Busch Series competition since the early 1980’s, The Mile has hosted the gamut of world-class events. The roster of past winners at America’s Legendary Oval is a list of auto racing royalty, including legendary competitors Barney Oldfield, Rex Mays, Parnelli Jones, A.J. Foyt, Jimmy Clark, the Unsers, the Andrettis, Nigel Mansell and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.

The venerable grand dame of racing has undergone many improvements in just the last few years, including a new all-aluminum bleacher and grandstand seating. The fan-friendly grandstands seat nearly 40,000 as well as provide significantly enhanced restrooms and concession areas. Competitor areas and paddock space has been recently enhanced at the state-of-the-art facility. A new pit wall, a new scoring pylon, a repaving and retrofit of the infield road course, and the construction of a permanent infield care center building were completed in recent years. The latest improvements are the installation of a $1 million SAFER Barrier System and road course barriers that match industry standards, providing the safest facility possible for all competitors.

A  Fall, 2006 surface coating of the Infield Road Course has further solidified the opportunity for car clubs, driving schools, vehicle roll-out sessions and motorsports enthusiasts to experience competition at The Milwaukee Mile. Various race team testing, Badger Kart Club points events and car club outings are on the increase. On occasion, NASCAR Sprint Cup (formerly NEXTEL Cup) Series teams also test the challenging oval to fine-tune their team’s chances on similar race tracks.

Our website’s “Other Events” section will keep you in tune with driving schools, club events and all the other activities going on at America's Legendary Oval.  Check the "Calendar" for upcoming events, as well.

The Milwaukee Mile remains at the forefront in offering it’s loyal fans the best in American Motorsports – IndyCar Series, the NASCAR Nationwide Series (formerly Busch Series) and Craftsman Truck Series, as well as the excitement of local Wisconsin series are once again on the dynamic 2008 schedule at America’s Legendary Oval.  The entire staff of The Milwaukee Mile is proud of our continued efforts to provide loyal Wisconsin race fans and competitors a state-of-the-art facility, and is working hard to bring you an even more exhilarating experience at America’s Legendary Oval.  We look forward to seeing you soon at The Milwaukee Mile.
